Madhya Pradesh Tourism Sets New Record with 110 Million Visitors in 2023

Celebrated for its deep-rooted cultural legacy, illustrious past, awe-inspiring natural landscapes, diverse fauna, and soulful experiences, Madhya Pradesh greeted over 110 million tourists in 2023, achieving a historic milestone for the state’s tourism. This remarkable feat not only surpassed pre-COVID levels but also firmly established Madhya Pradesh as a premier tourist hotspot in India.

The year 2023 marked a significant surge in tourist influx, with a staggering 112.1 million visitors compared to 34.1 million in 2022. Amongst the myriad attractions, Ujjain, revered as one of India’s holiest cities, stood out as the top draw, attracting over 52.8 million pilgrims and travelers. Notably, five of the state’s top ten most visited destinations were revered religious sites, including Ujjain, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Omkareshwar, and Salkanpur, underscoring the burgeoning allure of spiritual tourism.

Key initiatives such as Mahakal Lok in Ujjain and Ektma Dham in Omkareshwar played a pivotal role in bolstering visitor numbers. Additionally, the 24th of May, commemorating the foundation day of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC), doubles up as Madhya Pradesh Tourism Day, symbolizing the state’s commitment to nurturing its tourism sector.
