Reading Time: 2 minutes

The U.S. market boosts Vietnam’s tourism, with 478,000 American visitors arriving in the first seven months of 2024, highlighting major growth opportunities.

At the fair, Vietnamese tourism businesses not only highlighted popular destinations familiar to Korean travelers but also introduced new offerings tailored for the South Korean market. Among these new destinations were Ninh Binh, Binh Dinh, Da Lat – Lam Dong, and Phu Quoc.

The U.S. market presents a significant opportunity for Vietnam’s tourism sector. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, Vietnam welcomed 478,000 American tourists.

During a recent tourism promotion conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ho An Phong underscored the importance of focusing on major markets like the U.S. He noted that the recent elevation of Vietnam-U.S. relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would bolster collaboration in cultural, sports, and tourism arenas.

Phong highlighted that American tourists are known for their extended stays and interest in exploring Vietnam’s natural beauty and cultural offerings. He encouraged localities and businesses to effectively leverage these interests.

A major initiative for this year’s promotional activities includes a tourism and film promotion event, “Vietnam Expo in Hollywood,” scheduled for the third quarter in Los Angeles. This event will feature exhibits on Vietnamese cinema and tourism and showcase the potential of Vietnam’s film industry, along with its policies for international filmmakers. The goal is to engage with global filmmakers and promote Vietnam as a prime filming location.

To tap into expanding international markets, VNAT Deputy Director Ha Van Sieu announced a series of promotional activities planned through the end of the year. These include establishing Vietnam tourism promotion offices in Laos and other locations and implementing the 2021-2030 tourism system planning scheme, with a vision extending to 2045.

Additionally, VNAT will participate in various tourism promotion events in 2024, such as a high-profile forum at the 18th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC), the ASEAN-China Expo Tourism Exhibition, and the World Travel Market 2024 in the UK. The agency will also engage in programs to promote Vietnamese tourism in ASEAN countries and Australia.

The tourism sector aims to use targeted campaigns, diversify market access strategies, and enhance integrated marketing and communication efforts. By combining online and offline approaches and effectively mobilizing resources, the goal is to establish Vietnam as a premier international tourist destination.

West Virginia Tourism Unveils 2024 Foliage Map, Revealing Autumn’s Hidden Gems

Reading Time: 2 minutes

West Virginia Department of Tourism has unveiled its annual fall foliage projection map in anticipation of the rapidly approaching autumn season. Developed in collaboration with the West Virginia Division of Forestry, the map offers estimates on when fall colors are expected to appear throughout the Mountain State, aiding travelers in planning their fall getaways.

Governor Jim Justice highlighted the foliage projection and the upcoming fall season during his weekly administration update briefing.

“West Virginia is blessed with four incredible seasons, and fall is when we truly shine,” Gov. Justice said. “There is something magical about watching the leaves change to the most beautiful, vivid colors you’ve ever seen. We have so much goodness happening during the season, so start planning your trips now because you don’t want to miss out on the breathtaking scenes around Almost Heaven.”

Starting in mid-September, the Department of Tourism will begin providing weekly fall foliage updates, featuring real-time color reports and a curated list of the week’s most Instagrammable fall scenes. This list will help travelers discover the state’s top spots for prime leaf-viewing experiences.

“There’s still a few weeks of summer left to enjoy, but it’s never too early to start planning an autumn trip to experience West Virginia’s stunning fall colors,” said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. ”I’m looking forward to our rolling hills coming alive with vibrant foliage very soon. I have a feeling this may just be the best fall season we’ve seen in more than a decade. There’s no better place to experience the season than right here in Almost Heaven.”

Along with the fall foliage map, the Department of Tourism will offer a live leaf tracker that updates in real-time as the season progresses, giving travelers an up-to-date view of fall colors across the state. The tracker features photos shared on social media with #AlmostHeaven. Experts are predicting an outstanding fall season for West Virginia.

“It’s hard to believe it, but fall is quickly approaching. West Virginians are lucky to call the third most forested state in the U.S. home, with its wide variety of tree species that change different colors at different times which allows for an extended leaf watching season. There are so many ways to take in this beautiful time of the year,” said West Virginia Division of Forestry Director Jeremy Jones.

“We encourage all travelers to the state to join in on the fun and help us showcase our state’s natural beauty and jaw-dropping fall colors by sharing photos on social media using #AlmostHeaven,” said Ruby.

Scheduled for 7-9 February 2025, this highly anticipated long-distance hiking challenge promises to test the endurance and spirit of hikers and adventure enthusiasts on the breathtaking trails of Jebel Jais, home to the UAE’s longest developed hiking network spanning 80km.

This year’s event offers participants more than just a physical challenge; it presents an opportunity to explore Ras Al Khaimah’s rich heritage. As hikers traverse the rugged terrain, they will encounter ancient Emirati settlements and active farms, providing a glimpse into the history and cultural diversity of the region. These trails not only highlight the natural beauty of the area but also showcase the enduring way of life that has thrived in this rocky landscape for centuries.

Building on the success of previous editions, the 2025 HIGHLANDER Adventure introduces participants to three distinct hiking formats, each offering a unique experience.

The flagship event, HIGHLANDER Pegasus, is a 40km three-day backpacking challenge running from 7-9 February. Named after the mythical winged horse and a constellation visible in the northern sky, this challenge requires hikers to carry all essential gear, including camping, hiking, and cooking equipment, as they navigate the mountainous terrain. Participants will spend their nights camping under the stars, fully immersed in the raw beauty of Ras Al Khaimah’s mountain landscape.

New to the 2025 edition is HIGHLANDER Lyra, a 20km one-day hike set for 9 February. Participants will complete the challenge in a single day, carrying only the essentials for a day hike, making it an excellent introduction for those new to long-distance hiking.

Throughout the event, participants will be guided by expert organizers and will have the chance to connect with a global community of adventure enthusiasts. As they journey across old settlements and active farms, hikers will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural richness and historical significance of Ras Al Khaimah.

In line with Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to sustainable tourism, the HIGHLANDER Adventure emphasizes responsible outdoor activities. The event will include educational sessions on ecology, promoting a deeper appreciation for the natural environment and the importance of preserving it for future generations. Participants are encouraged to embrace the beauty of the outdoors while minimizing their environmental impact, ensuring that Ras Al Khaimah remains a pristine destination for adventurers.

Halo Space: Saudi Arabia’s to host its next test flight of space tourism firm, What you need to know?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Saudi Arabia will host the next test flight of space tourism firm Halo Space, it was announced on Wednesday.

The sixth Halo Space test flight in September will use a life-size prototype capsule, Aurora. It will ascend to 30 km above the Earth’s surface.

It is in collaboration with the Kingdom’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission or CST.

The flight will be used to check and validate the integrated operation of all critical systems developed over the past three years, the firm said.

“The dates and location were set to ensure the reliable operation of our equipment and safe conditions for the teams that will be on the ground operating the flight,” said Alberto Castrillo, chief technology officer at Halo Space.

The CST has been working with and supporting Halo Space since the start of the year, overseeing preparations for the test flight.

It has also been collaborating with other government entities such as the General Authority of Civil Aviation to meet all regulatory requirements for the flight.

It said that the decision to establish its flagship operational base and final assembly site in Saudi Arabia underscored the Kingdom’s ideal conditions for space exploration and its ambitions to be at the forefront of space tourism.

Halo Space’s prototype capsule test flights are a prelude to the launch of manned flights, expected to begin in 2025, to be followed by commercial flights in 2026.
