The U.S. market presents a significant opportunity for Vietnam’s tourism sector. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, Vietnam welcomed 478,000 American tourists.
During a recent tourism promotion conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ho An Phong underscored the importance of focusing on major markets like the U.S. He noted that the recent elevation of Vietnam-U.S. relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would bolster collaboration in cultural, sports, and tourism arenas.
Phong highlighted that American tourists are known for their extended stays and interest in exploring Vietnam’s natural beauty and cultural offerings. He encouraged localities and businesses to effectively leverage these interests.
A major initiative for this year’s promotional activities includes a tourism and film promotion event, “Vietnam Expo in Hollywood,” scheduled for the third quarter in Los Angeles. This event will feature exhibits on Vietnamese cinema and tourism and showcase the potential of Vietnam’s film industry, along with its policies for international filmmakers. The goal is to engage with global filmmakers and promote Vietnam as a prime filming location.
To tap into expanding international markets, VNAT Deputy Director Ha Van Sieu announced a series of promotional activities planned through the end of the year. These include establishing Vietnam tourism promotion offices in Laos and other locations and implementing the 2021-2030 tourism system planning scheme, with a vision extending to 2045.
Additionally, VNAT will participate in various tourism promotion events in 2024, such as a high-profile forum at the 18th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC), the ASEAN-China Expo Tourism Exhibition, and the World Travel Market 2024 in the UK. The agency will also engage in programs to promote Vietnamese tourism in ASEAN countries and Australia.
The tourism sector aims to use targeted campaigns, diversify market access strategies, and enhance integrated marketing and communication efforts. By combining online and offline approaches and effectively mobilizing resources, the goal is to establish Vietnam as a premier international tourist destination.
