The Valencian Community has achieved a record-breaking influx of international tourists in the first half of the year, reaching 5,309,844 visitors—an impressive 19.9% rise from the same period in 2023. This surge has driven a historic high in foreign spending, totaling €6.4 billion, which represents a substantial 28% increase compared to the previous year and ranks among the highest increases nationally.
Leading this growth is the British market, which has contributed €1.6 billion in expenditures by mid-year, a 33% jump from the previous year. The Nordic market has also seen a notable increase, with €767.3 million spent, reflecting a 37.4% rise. Additionally, French tourists have upped their spending to €703.2 million, marking a 17.6% increase year-over-year.
It’s important to recognize that prices, including those for hotels and other hospitality services, have also risen during this period.
These figures represent the highest results in the entire historical record, continuing the positive trend in foreign tourism observed in recent months. From January to June, each visitor to the Valencian Community spent an average of €1,212, which is a 6.6% increase from the previous year. Visitors also enjoyed a longer stay, averaging 9.3 days, a 4.3% rise compared to 2023. The daily expenditure per visitor was €130, reflecting a 2.3% year-on-year increase.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, as outlined in Orden PRE/1282/2007 and RD 145/2024, the minimum financial requirement for entering Spain is €113.4 per person per day. Regardless of the duration of stay, travelers must possess at least €1,020.6 or the equivalent amount in other currencies.
Tourist Arrivals by Market
The United Kingdom remains the leading source of tourists for the Valencian Community, with 1,419,811 British visitors arriving in the first half of the year. This represents an 18.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
France follows as the second largest market, contributing 823,189 tourists, which is an 18% rise from last year. The Nordic countries also show a significant increase, with 487,095 visitors, marking a 22.6% growth over the previous year.
The Netherlands has also seen a substantial increase, with 397,308 Dutch tourists arriving, reflecting a 17.3% rise. The German market has experienced a notable surge of 24.5%, bringing in 374,833 German visitors up to June.
Italian tourists have also made a strong impact, with 272,146 Italians visiting, which is a 23.9% increase from the same period last year. The overall growth in these markets highlights the Valencian Community’s increasing appeal to a diverse international audience.
Historic Highs for the Valencian Community in June
June saw a record number of international visitors to the Valencian Community, with 1,120,102 tourists arriving, marking a 19.5% increase from the previous year. These visitors spent a total of €1.4 billion, a significant 26.3% rise compared to June of last year.
During the same month, the average expenditure per visitor was €1,253, reflecting a 5.7% increase. Daily spending reached €132, which is a 2.7% increase year-over-year. Tourists extended their stay to an average of 9.5 days, resulting in 10.6 million overnight stays—a 23% rise compared to June 2023.
The British, French, and Nordic countries were the primary sources of visitors, with the Nordic countries showing a remarkable 41.2% increase from the previous year. Italian arrivals also saw a notable increase of 25.2%, while German tourist numbers grew by 3%.
