Nationals of Japan, South Korea, and the UAE can now avail themselves of a Visa-on-Arrival facility for tourism, business, conferences, and medical visits, allowing a 60-day stay with double entry through six specified airports.
The Indian Ministry of Tourism regularly conducts targeted surveys, research, and feasibility studies to assess and guide tourism development. These studies are instrumental in shaping policies and ensuring that programs align with set objectives, while also identifying areas for potential enhancement.
An E-Visa facility, with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), is currently accessible to citizens from 167 countries, permitting entry through 30 designated international airports and six major seaports.
In collaboration with the Indian Ministry of Tourism, 15 state governments and union territories have introduced tourist police in various capacities. Additionally, a 24/7 Multi-Lingual Tourist Info-Helpline has been established, available at the toll-free number 1800111363 or short code 1363, offering assistance in 12 languages, including 10 international languages, to support both domestic and international tourists with travel information and guidance in case of distress while traveling in India.
The Indian Ministry of Tourism initiated the Swadesh Darshan scheme in 2014-15 to provide financial support for the development of tourism infrastructure across states, union territories, and central agencies. From its inception until 2018-19, 76 projects under various thematic circuits have been approved, with a revised sanction amount of Rs. 5287.90 crore, of which Rs. 4944.47 crore has been disbursed. The scheme has been upgraded to Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to foster sustainable and responsible tourism, focusing on a tourist and destination-centric approach.
The Ministry introduced the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) as a Central Sector Scheme aimed at the integrated development of pilgrimage destinations. Under this scheme, Rs. 1621.14 crore has been sanctioned, with Rs. 1024.18 crore released to date.
