Morocco Achieves MAD 49 Billion Tourism Revenue with 2.3% Growth

Morocco’s tourism revenues reached MAD 49 billion ($4.9 billion) in the first half of 2024, up from MAD 47.9 billion ($4.8 billion) in the same period last year, according to new data.

The Office of Exchange released these statistics on Wednesday, highlighting a 2.3% revenue increase compared to last year.

Tourist arrivals surged by 13.9% in the first six months of this year, the data revealed.

This growth was driven by the influx of tourists in the first half of 2024, with arrivals totaling 7 million.

Foreign tourists made up 54.2% of the total, marking a 16.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

The Moroccan diaspora accounted for 45.8% of arrivals, showing an 11.2% increase.

According to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), tourism revenues rose by 1.6% by the end of May 2024, following a 4.2% decline in the first quarter of the year.

The Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) reported that overnight stays in classified accommodations surged by 145% in the first two months of the second quarter of 2024, following a 2.9% increase in the first quarter of the same year.

Overall, overnight stays rose by 8.3% in the first five months of 2024, driven by a 13% increase in non-resident overnight stays.

The Office of Exchange anticipates continued growth and acceleration in the tourism sector throughout the second quarter of this year, as evidenced by the strong performance across all sector indicators.
