The German National Tourist Office India (GNTO India) is thrilled to announce that Germany’s culinary scene has reached new heights, now featuring an impressive 340 Michelin-starred restaurants. This achievement underscores Germany’s status as a top destination for food enthusiasts, offering Indian travelers a rich and varied culinary experience.
Indian travelers, known for their love of food, often seek out authentic German and international cuisines in addition to their native dishes. Germany caters to this interest with a wide array of culinary options, including traditional fare, contemporary interpretations, and creative fusions.
Among these 340 Michelin-starred establishments, 50 have earned two stars, while 280 hold one star. Ten restaurants have achieved the pinnacle of Michelin recognition with three stars in 2024. Saarland, a small state in southwestern Germany, stands out with a remarkable 12 Michelin stars, making it a popular destination for gourmet enthusiasts, particularly given its size and population. Baiersbronn, a quaint town in the Black Forest region, has been newly acclaimed as Germany’s gourmet capital.
Additionally, 199 restaurants in Germany have received the Bib Gourmand, an accolade for offering exceptional dishes at a great value. Seventy-seven establishments have been honored with a Green Star, which recognizes a commitment to sustainability. The MICHELIN Green Star, introduced in 2020, highlights restaurants that prioritize resource conservation, seasonal and local ingredients, and ethical animal husbandry practices.

With this remarkable accomplishment, Germany now holds the fourth highest number of Michelin stars globally, trailing only behind France, Japan, and Italy.
