These sessions have gathered a wide array of participants, including:

Regional tourism businesses

Indigenous tourism operators

Resorts

Advocacy groups

Economic development agencies

Community Destination Management Organizations (CDMOs)

Representatives from Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and Kootenay Rockies Tourism

Southern Valleys Engagement

For the Southern Valleys, a virtual engagement session took place in May 2024, followed by an in-person meeting in June 2024 in Summerland. These sessions provided essential insights and feedback from local stakeholders, guiding the future direction of tourism in the region.

Southeast British Columbia Engagement

In Southeast British Columbia, a workshop with the Kootenay Rockies Regional Destination Management Committee was held in April 2024. Additionally, throughout July 2024, one-on-one interviews with industry leaders are being conducted to gather in-depth information on specific opportunities and ongoing initiatives.

Enhancing Visitor Experiences

The ultimate goal of these engagement activities is to develop a comprehensive destination development strategy for each Iconic region. This strategy aims to enhance the visitor experience by offering unique and compelling attractions that attract tourists and support local economies.

By utilizing the insights and expertise of regional stakeholders, Destination BC strives to create sustainable and thriving tourism destinations that benefit both visitors and local communities.
