UnionPay International is rapidly expanding its presence across Europe, with UnionPay cards now accepted in 90% of the countries and regions, including all Schengen countries. The POS acceptance rate for UnionPay card merchants in these regions has reached 80%. This expansion enhances the convenience for UnionPay cardholders traveling in Europe this summer. Cardholders are encouraged to link their UnionPay cards to their mobile phones for swift and efficient payments, especially in popular tourist destinations like France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Hungary.
UnionPay International has expanded support for UnionPay QuickPass at over 6 million merchant POS across Europe, enabling tourists to effortlessly link their UnionPay cards with mobile wallets like Huawei Pay and Apple Pay for easy transactions by tapping their card or simply waving their phone. Many renowned department stores and shopping centers in Europe now also accept UnionPay QR codes, appealing to Asia-Pacific tourists familiar with QR-based payments.
In culturally rich areas like Italy, Greece, and Spain, the acceptance rates of UnionPay cards are high, reaching 85%, 80%, and 90% respectively. The UnionPay logo is now a common sight at major tourist spots, including the London Eye, the Eiffel Tower, and Athens’ Acropolis Museum.
UnionPay International has tailored its services for various travel scenarios—cross-border, intercity, and local—to enhance the use of UnionPay for dining, lodging, transport, tourism, entertainment, and shopping. The card’s utility continues to grow in major European hub airports like Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, and Heathrow, with over 90 international airlines and online platforms like Trip.com supporting UnionPay for ticket purchases. UnionPay cards are also accepted for national and urban transportation across Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary, and more.
Leveraging its resource integration skills, UnionPay collaborates with various partners to offer extensive benefits across Europe. In 44 countries and regions, users enjoy perks like tax refunds, shopping discounts, and QR code refunds at major airports. The UnionPay App provides favorable exchange rates in 20 countries including the UK, Ireland, and France, enhancing the affordability of international travel.
With over 240 million UnionPay cards issued outside of China and users in 82 countries, including over 10 in Europe like Spain and Serbia, UnionPay is responding to the growing demand for convenient payment solutions. This summer, regions like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Southeast Asia have introduced local UnionPay products, supporting seamless payments for European tourists. As digital payments evolve, UnionPay remains at the forefront with about 200 collaborative wallets worldwide and nearly 600 million potential users. Its diverse payment options, including card, QR code, and QuickPass, are popular for cross-border use and favored by tourists across Europe.
