The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and POP MART collaborated to host a special event, the “Welcome Ceremony of LABUBU,” celebrating the beloved furry doll’s journey to explore Thailand’s rich culture and iconic landmarks over four days. This event marks a precursor to next year’s festivities commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.

Today, the “Welcome Ceremony of LABUBU” commenced as the LABUBU mascot arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport aboard Hainan Airlines Flight HU429 from Beijing. The mascot received a grand reception led by Mr. Sermsak Pongpanit, the Minister overseeing Tourism and Sports.

Also present were Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor; Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pheuk-um, Commissioner of the Tourist Police; Mr. Jiang Peizhang, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China; Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific at TAT Mr. Kittipong Kittikachorn, General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport; Mr. Manatase Annawat, President of Thailand Privilege Card; Mr. Qian Daizhe, Vice President of Travel and Leisure Business at Qunar; and Ms. Chen Xiaoyun serves as the Vice President of POP MART International Group Limited.

Mr. Sermsak said “The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is promoting the positive image of Thailand in line with the government’s ease of travel policy. This includes the upcoming 60-day visa-free entry for citizens of 93 countries, including China. I am delighted to see TAT and POP MART have co-branded to bring LABUBU to engage in the diverse and unique activities in Thailand, which will certainly help boost tourism to Thailand.”

During the airport welcome ceremony, the LABUBU mascot was bestowed with the prestigious title of “Amazing Thailand Experience Explorer.” The beloved doll is set to embark on an adventure exploring five essential activities in Bangkok: indulging in must-try Thai cuisine, witnessing captivating Thai cultural shows, delving into the rich tapestry of Thai culture, shopping for authentic Thai fabrics, and experiencing the excitement of Muay Thai.

Ms. Thapanee said “The “Welcome Ceremony of LABUBU” event is presented with the theme of “POPMART LABUBU X TAT IGNITE THAILAND.” The event reflects the ‘five must-do activities in Thailand’ strategy with LABUBU being a storyteller sharing impressive travel experiences in Thailand. We hope this will help inspire LABUBU’s fanbase in China to follow in its footsteps and choose Thailand as their preferred destination.”

From July 2-4, catch LABUBU, dressed in traditional Thai attire, starring in a series of promotional videos. Explore Bangkok’s iconic landmarks as LABUBU enjoys fresh seafood along the Chao Phraya River at Horsamut Restaurant, rides an electric tuk-tuk to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo, tours Siam Discovery and Siam Square for shopping, picks up Thai souvenirs, and watches thrilling Muay Thai matches at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

TAT has teamed up with Qunar.com to offer travel packages inspired by LABUBU’s adventures in Thailand. These packages cover Bangkok, Pattaya, and Chon Buri, available until September 1 or throughout the Chinese summer, aiming to boost travel to Thailand.

TAT anticipates these travel packages will attract 20,000 visitors, with the promotional videos reaching at least 500 million viewers.
