Cogne tourism to revive with its helicopter transportation for the tourists

Reading Time: 2 minutes

To revive tourism in Cogne’s flood-and-mudslide-impacted region, Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché announced plans on Tuesday to implement helicopter transportation for tourists.

This initiative aims to circumvent the accessibility challenges posed by recent natural disasters that have severely affected the Aosta mountain resort.

Santanché, who visited Aosta to assess the post-flood situation, emphasized the potential benefits of the helicopter tourism project, named ‘Cogne gives wings’.

She stated, “It is an idea that will do Aosta Valley good and benefit the community of Cogne.”

The project aims not only to bring back tourists but also to support local businesses and prevent further economic decline in the region.

The minister outlined the logistics of the initiative, explaining that tourists would be transported directly to Cogne via helicopter from Aosta.

Rather than putting people out of work, closing hotels, closing the community, we will work to get tourists to Aosta, pick them up by helicopter, and bring them to Cogne, she affirmed.

Santanché proposed that tourists would need to stay for a minimum period, either four days in a hotel or 15 days in a second home, ensuring a sustainable boost to the local economy.

The ‘Cogne gives wings’ project underscores the government’s commitment to revitalizing tourism in areas affected by natural disasters, leveraging innovative solutions to overcome infrastructure challenges.

By offering helicopter transport, Santanché aims to not only restore Cogne’s appeal as a tourist destination but also demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity.

Local stakeholders and residents have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a proactive step towards recovery and stability.

With plans underway and community support rallying behind the project, the government’s helicopter tourism initiative could set a precedent for disaster-stricken regions worldwide, highlighting the importance of adaptive strategies in sustainable tourism development.
