Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi Announces Timely 2025 Completion for Saadiyat Cultural District

The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) confirmed today that the Saadiyat Cultural District and its cultural institutions remain on schedule for completion in 2025.

Saadiyat Cultural District stands as a global platform that celebrates traditions and fosters equitable culture. It showcases museums, collections, and narratives that honor regional heritage while promoting a diverse global cultural landscape.

Once completed, the district’s diverse institutions will make it one of the world’s most unique cultural platforms. Home to Louvre Abu Dhabi, the first universal museum in the Arab world, the district presents artworks from various cultures, telling stories of human connections. Since its 2017 opening, Louvre Abu Dhabi has welcomed 5 million visitors and is renowned for its stunning architecture and innovative storytelling. Nearby, Berklee Abu Dhabi offers music, performing arts, and educational programs year-round.

Manarat Al Saadiyat, a center for creative artistic expression, hosts two major cultural events: Abu Dhabi Art and Culture Summit Abu Dhabi.

Currently, the construction of the soon-to-open institutions in Saadiyat Cultural District is 76% complete. Zayed National Museum will celebrate the UAE’s rich history and culture, honoring Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s legacy. TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will invite visitors to an ever-changing exploration, pushing the limits of imagination.

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi will feature a research and teaching institution, guiding visitors through a 13.8 billion-year journey of our universe and planet. Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will celebrate art from the 1960s to the present, highlighting significant artistic achievements of our time.

Saadiyat Cultural District pays tribute to Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, who set the cultural agenda and revealed the UAE’s history through archaeological findings. This legacy began with the opening of Al Ain Museum in 1971 and the Cultural Foundation in 1981. Under Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this legacy flourished and is now carried forward by HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

HE Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Culture transcends mere connections; it shapes our very evolution and broadens our perspectives. Here in Abu Dhabi, we embrace this influence, fostering a deep appreciation that resonates throughout our community. Saadiyat Cultural District embodies ‘cultural hope’.  The District will convey a message of cultural diversity that will become more powerful over time, creating global connections, inspiring cultural exchange, and fostering new ways of thinking to support the region, the global South and the world. Saadiyat Cultural District is somewhere people can come to learn from the past, understand our present and focus on our future.”

DCT Abu Dhabi has launched a captivating campaign titled “Be Moved in a Thousand Ways,” introduced by philanthropist, talk show host, and author Oprah Winfrey. The campaign film shares an inspirational message on the transformative power of culture to unite, inspire, and open minds.
