The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and MGM have launched the “Together We Deliver Exceptional Hospitality as Tourism Ambassadors” Training Series today (21 May) to boost service quality in tourism and related sectors. This initiative aims to foster a spirit of hospitality among local residents and students, aligning with Macao’s “1 + 4” economic diversification strategy and reinforcing its status as a global hub for tourism and leisure.
The launch ceremony of the“Together We Deliver Exceptional Hospitality As Tourism Ambassadors” Training Series took place at MGM Cotai Theatre today (21 May). MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong expressed in his remarks that following the “Macao Welcomes You” Training Programs for International Guests unveiled in February, it is with delight that MGTO once again collaborates with MGM to present the “Together We Deliver Exceptional Hospitality As Tourism Ambassadors” Training Series. Through themed seminars and a short video contest, the training series aims to propel Macao’s tourism industry towards more sustainable and high-quality development. He hopes that members of the travel trade can get equipped to offer greater hospitality to a diversity of visitors.
The training series also includes a seminar led by the renowned Hong Kong artist and emcee, Mayanne Mak. This seminar focuses on advancing professional qualities and etiquette knowledge for tourism ambassadors in Macao. Topics include standards and applications of etiquette, adaptation to cultural differences, and improving etiquette competency and cross-cultural communication skills. Participants will engage in case studies to develop practical solutions.
Short Video Contest for Young Creators in the Third Quarter
This year’s third quarter will feature the “Youth Hospitality Activities – Macao Tourism Courtesy Short Video Contest,” aimed at engaging young people with the tourism industry. The contest invites Macao students aged 15 to 35 to showcase their creativity and deepen their connection to Macao through short film-making. Organized by the Macao New Chinese Youth Association, the contest highlights Macao’s charm as a travel destination and enhances the Macao Courtesy Campaign.
Robust Support from Various Stakeholders
The “Together We Deliver Exceptional Hospitality As Tourism Ambassadors” Training Series was inaugurated with significant attendance, including Yang Yi, Deputy Division Head of Economic Affairs at the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao, Cheng Wai Tong, MGTO Deputy Director, and Kenneth Feng, President of MGM China Holdings. The event also saw participation from over 800 stakeholders, including representatives from the tourism industry, governmental sectors, trade associations, educational institutions, and social organizations.
The Training Series, a collaborative effort between MGTO and MGM, enjoys the backing of more than 30 entities from various sectors including hospitality, catering, small and medium enterprises, and education.
Since launching the Macao Courtesy Campaign on July 1, 2023, MGTO has worked with local businesses to provide training aimed at improving service quality. A notable initiative included an academic year opening ceremony titled “Learn to be an Ambassador,” promoting the ethos of “Be My Guest ∙ Feel At Home” among students. Additionally, in the first quarter of 2024, the “Macao Courtesy Campaign Online Learning Video” was released, encouraging the general public and tourism workers to adopt courteous practices, thereby enhancing the overall visitor experience in Macao.
